Easy Brown Sugar Syrup Recipe

minutesHomemade buttery brown sugar syrup made with basic ingredients like brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and buttermilk. Serve syrup hot or at room temperature for breakfast, dessert or in your coffee drinks.
Ingredients
1 pound butter
2 cups buttermilk
2 cups sugar
2 cups regular brown sugar or (2 cups of dark brown sugar for a richer flavor)
1/4 cup corn syrup
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon vanilla
Directions
- In a very large saucepan/stockpot over medium-high heat, melt butter.
- Add buttermilk and corn syrup.
- Cook until almost boiling, stirring constantly while cooking.
- Add regular sugar and light brown sugar to large pot, simmer until sugar dissolves (do not boil).
- Add vanilla and soda (cross your fingers that your pot is big enough).
- Stir as your mixture grows. Do not let it boil over!
- Cook 1 minute. Keep stirring!
- Remove from heat and continue stirring until your syrup stops trying to grow out of the pan. Let it sit. Time to start the waffles!
Notes
- This makes a lot of sweet syrup! You can reduce this by half, but it’s delicious and keeps for a long time in the fridge (about 1 month).
- Cool mixture to room temperature before storing in an airtight container or glass bottle.
- Simple brown sugar syrup serving suggestions for leftover syrup. Serve at room temperature for ice cream, or poor over chocolate cake for a deeper flavor of sweet caramel.
- Best way to warm up left over syrup: Place cold syrup in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk until syrup is warm enough to serve.
- QUICK TIP: Store syrup in a glass jar and get an easy way to reheat syrup. Place glass jar in a bain-marie or small small sauce pan with hot water over low heat. Slowly heat and shake bottle until butter is mixed back into syrup.
