How to Make Bagels: 5 Step Recipe
1. Mix all Ingredients together and kneed for 10 minutes.
2. Cut and shape 12 dough balls.
3. Roll out bagel shape & rise until doubled in size.
4. Low boil each side for 1 minute in a large pot of water.
5. Add Toppings & Bake at 375 F for 20-25 minutes

Bagel Seasoning Ideas
Before baking add toppings for a variety of bagels. Brush the top of each bagel with a milk wash and sprinkle over your favorite bagel toppings.
Milk Wash = 1 egg + ½ cup milk or Vegan Milk Wash = 1 Tbsp. ground flax + 5 Tbsp. water. Gently brush on top of each bagel before baking to make toppings stick and give a golden brown color
Bagel Topping Ideas: sea salt, Italian seasoning, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, garlic salt, onion flakes or, garlic powder.
Everything Bagel Topping: In a small bowl mix equal parts of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, garlic salt, and onion flakes.
Cheesy Toppings: Asiago cheese and parmesan make the best bagel sandwich toppings. For a vegan-friendly option use vegan parmesan.

Bagel Sandwiches
Is there anything better than a toasty warm bagel breakfast sandwich, or dinner? Grab a bagel and chew on a few of these bagel sandwich ideas.
Cream Cheese: add cream cheese or vegan cream cheese.
Easy Vegan Bagels Toasted: simply add vegan butter and your favorite fruit jelly preserves.
Lox Bagel: smoked salmon, capers, and cream cheese.
Breakfast Bagel: sausage or bacon with eggs.
Lunch Bagels: add sliced cold meats, cream cheese, sprouts or lettuce and tomato.
Tuna Salad: mix tuna with mayo for a quick tuna salad sandwich.
Chicken Salad Bagels: these are a great way to have lunch, “pack and go” for a quick lunch or snack.

Ingredients
Flour high-gluten white bread flour works best.
Sugar white sugar or honey would be nice too.
Table salt or sea salt
Vegetable oil or any cooking oil like olive oil.
Yeast instant dry yeast or active dry yeast
Optional Egg wash: 1 Egg and ½ cup of milk
Egg Wash Directions
1/2 cup milk whisked together with 1 egg

Tools
- Standing dough mixer
- Baking sheet or tray
- Baking paper or slip mat
- Bread kitchen towel
- Tongs & flat slotted spoon
- Optional: pastry brush & bowl scraper
Steps
Step 1 – Mix all ingredients together in a stand mixer and knead with a dough hook for 10 minutes.
Step 2 – Cut and shape 12 dough balls. Cover with a large bowl or kitchen tea towel to prevent drying out. Let rest for 15 minutes.
Step 3 – Roll out dough to form a bagel ring.
First: Roll out dough to a long rope, 2 palms in length.
Second: Pull dough over your hand and overlap ends in the palm of your hand.
Lastly: On a flat surface, roll your hand towards you to seal the ring.
Place bagels on a lightly floured surface, and rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 20 minutes.

Step 4 – Bring water to a boil and reduce it to a simmer in a large saucepan. Place bagels in water for 1 minute on each side in the simmering water bath. Flip with tongs and remove with a strainer spoon.
Step 5 – Place bagels face side up on a prepared baking tray. Leave enough room for them to rise about 2-3 inches apart. Optional add toppings: Brush the top of the bagel with egg wash to help the topping stick.
Bake for 20-25 minutes at 375 F.

4 cups bread flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tbsp yeast
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups warm water.

1 egg slightly beaten
1/2 cup milk

Directions
- Mix all ingredients together and need for 10 minutes
- Cut and shape 12 equal pieces of dough, hand stretch or shape into small balls. Rest covered for 15 minutes.
- Roll each dough ball into a long rope around the palm of your hand. overlap the two pieces in the palm of your hand and gently roll them against the counter to join the ends together.
- Let’s rise 20 minutes on a floured surface face up.
- Place bagels face side down into boiling water for 1 minute on each side.
- Place bagels face side up on a prepared baking tray. Leave enough room for bagels to rise and bake evenly.
- OPTIONAL: Brush the tops of each bagel with egg wash and add toppings.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes at 375 F
Notes
- Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean-up.
- Store leftover bagels at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days or freeze in a freezer bag for up to 1 month.
