Easy Tips To Make Fry Bread Hot Pockets At Home

Preheat vegetable oil in your frying pan. The perfect temp to fry is between 350-375°F.

I never use a deep-fry thermometer instead, I test frying oil temperature with a drop of water.

To check the temperature of the oil, you may want to stand away from the stove, simply drop one drop of water into the hot oil.

Oil is ready to fry when you hear a sizzling sound. Oil is too hot if it pops or smokes. If that happens let it cool before frying.

Simple directions to make pizza pockets: Roll out dough to ½” thick, add 2-3 sliced pepperoni, and a spoon full of shredded cheese. Fold in half and pinch edges closed with a dab of water to seal. Serve with a pizza sauce.

Deep fry in a cast-iron skillet until golden brown on both sides.

Basic Ingredients To Make Indian Fry Bread

Vegetable oil enough to fill your frying pan 1 inch deep.

Flour all purpose flour or wheat flour can be used to make Native American fry bread.

Table salt or sea salt works best for this recipe.

Baking powder

  • Frying pan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or fork
  • Tongs
  • Paper napkins or plate

Preheat heat oil in a large skillet or frying pan on medium-high heat. You could also use a deep fryer or electric skillet to fry in.

Step 1 – In a large mixing bowl mix the dry ingredients: flour, salt, and baking powder.
Step 2 – Mix enough water into the center of the flour mixture to form a sticky dough. Knead bread dough by hand into a ball.
Step 3 – Cut dough into nine equal round dough balls, cover with plastic wrap, or a clean kitchen towel. Take one piece of dough and roll or flatten each ball to about ½” thick. If the dough is sticky roll out on a floured surface with a rolling pin or palm of your hand.
Step 4 – Fry in hot oil on both sides until golden brown. Remove fry bread from the frying pan with tongs and place it on a plate with paper towels to cool.

Serve With Yummy Sweet Toppings: Drizzle with honey, maple syrup, or serve with honey butter. I like to mix equal parts of honey or orange marmalade with olive oil to dip bread in.
